GTA VI Fast Travel: All Fast Travel Points & Transportation Hubs

Leonida is the largest open world Rockstar Games has ever created, and simply driving from one end of the map to the other can take upwards of 15 real-world minutes. Fast travel systems in GTA VI have been significantly expanded to ensure players can efficiently navigate between Vice City, Port Gellhorn, the Vice Keys, and the remote interior regions without spending half their play session behind the wheel.

This guide catalogs every fast travel point in the game, explains how each system works, and provides strategic recommendations for minimizing travel time. For an overview of the regions these points connect, start with our complete Vice City map guide.

Fast Travel Systems Overview

GTA VI features six distinct fast travel systems, each with different costs, coverage areas, and gameplay implications. Understanding when to use each system is key to efficient navigation.

Taxi Services

The taxi is the most versatile fast travel option in GTA VI. Taxis can be hailed from any urban or suburban roadside by pressing the interact button while looking at one. Alternatively, you can call the Vice City Taxi Company through your in-game phone contacts and a taxi will arrive at your location within approximately 30 seconds.

Once inside a taxi, you can select any revealed map marker as your destination. The fare is calculated based on distance, ranging from $15 for a short urban trip to $350 for a cross-state journey. You can choose to skip the ride (instant loading screen fast travel), ride along in real time, or ride along at 2x speed. The 2x speed option is a new addition for GTA VI and strikes a nice balance โ€” faster than real time but still allowing you to observe the passing scenery.

Taxis will not pick you up in wilderness areas, on water, on highways (unless at a designated rest stop), or while you have an active wanted level. However, once the wanted level is cleared, taxis will service you again immediately. The citywide taxi coverage area encompasses all of Vice City proper, Port Gellhorn, the Vice Keys developed areas, and the rural towns along major state routes.

Pro tip: Taxis count as civilian vehicles for wanted-level purposes. If you are trying to evade a low wanted level, taking a taxi (ridden in real time, not skipped) can help you blend into traffic better than your personal vehicle.

Leonida Coach Network (Bus System)

The Leonida Coach Network is the budget fast travel option, connecting all major settlements across the state through fixed bus routes. Bus stations are marked on the map with a blue bus icon and are located in:

  • Vice City Central Station (Downtown, adjacent to the Metro hub)
  • South Beach Terminal (Ocean Drive and 5th Street)
  • Little Havana Depot (Calle Ocho and 17th Avenue)
  • Port Gellhorn Transit Center (Main Street and Harbor Boulevard)
  • Islamorada Key Station (Overseas Highway, near the resort district)
  • Marathon Key Stop (Mid-Keys, near the dive shops)
  • Key West Terminal (Duval Street, southern end)
  • Dankville Stop (Rural Route 27, at the gas station)
  • Leonida Springs Depot (County Courthouse Square)
  • Mudd County Stop (Intersection of Rural Routes 14 and 41)

Bus fares range from $5 to $50 depending on distance, making the Coach Network the most economical fast travel method. However, buses run on schedules โ€” you may need to wait up to 5 in-game hours for the next departure. The schedule is posted at each station and is also accessible through the Travel & Transport app on your in-game phone.

Buses travel in real time (or can be skipped), and unlike taxis, you share the bus with NPC passengers. Random events can occur on bus journeys โ€” conversations with seatmates may reveal hidden package locations, pickpockets may attempt to rob you, and occasionally a bus may be hijacked, creating an impromptu combat encounter.

Vice City Metro

The Vice City Metro is an underground and elevated rail system connecting Downtown Vice City, the barrier islands (via an underwater tunnel), and Port Gellhorn. Metro stations are marked on the map with a white โ€œMโ€ in a circle.

The Metro system consists of three lines:

Red Line (Downtown Loop): Circulates through Downtown Vice City, connecting the Financial District, the Convention Center, Bayfront Park, and the Civic Center. This line is mostly elevated, offering good views of the city skyline. Stations: Financial Center, Convention Center, Bayfront Park, Civic Center, and Downtown Junction (interchange with the Blue Line).

Blue Line (Island Connector): Runs from Downtown Junction through the underwater Vasquez Bay Tunnel to South Beach (Alton Road Station) and along the barrier island to the Vice City Marina station. This is the most scenic fast travel route in the game โ€” the underwater tunnel section features glass walls showing marine life outside, and the elevated coastal track runs parallel to Ocean Drive.

Green Line (Northern Corridor): Connects Downtown Junction to Port Gellhorn via a northern route passing through Little Havana, the Grassrivers border, and the Port Gellhorn outskirts. This line is partially at grade (street level) through the Grassrivers section, making it vulnerable to wildlife encounters โ€” trains occasionally have to stop for alligators on the tracks.

Metro fares are a flat $3 per ride, regardless of distance, making it the cheapest fast travel method. Trains run every 2 in-game hours (approximately every 4 real-world minutes). The Metro is unavailable during certain story events when sections of the system are closed for โ€œmaintenanceโ€ (read: plot-related destruction).

Vice Keys Ferry Service

The Vice Keys Ferry provides water-based fast travel between the mainland and the Keys archipelago. Ferry terminals are located at:

  • Vice City Marina Ferry Terminal (mainland departure point, barrier island side of the marina)
  • Islamorada Key Ferry Dock (first stop in the Keys)
  • Marathon Key Ferry Terminal (mid-Keys stop)
  • Key West Ferry Port (southern terminus)

The ferry crossing takes approximately 15 in-game hours when ridden in real time, or can be skipped via loading screen. The fare is $25 for any inter-port journey. Ferries depart hourly from each terminal and the journey includes a narrated tour of the Vasquez Bay and Atlantic coast, with the narrator pointing out landmarks and occasionally mentioning hidden locations worth investigating.

A unique feature of the Ferry Service is vehicle transport โ€” you can bring one personal vehicle onto the ferry for an additional $15 fee. This is particularly useful for bringing a car to the Keys without driving the entire Overseas Highway. Motorcycles and compact cars fit on the standard vehicle deck; larger vehicles require the cargo ferry which runs on a less frequent schedule.

Commercial Air Travel

Vice City International Airport (VCIA) and Port Gellhorn Regional Airport offer the longest-distance fast travel in the game. Commercial flights connect the two airports with a loading screen transition, essentially teleporting you across 70% of the map.

To take a commercial flight, visit either airport terminal, approach the ticket counter, and select your destination. The fare is $150 one-way. Security checkpoints at the airport must be navigated โ€” you cannot bring visible weapons through security, though concealed weapons in your inventory pass through without issue. The airport interior is fully modeled and explorable, with shops, restaurants, and random NPC encounters.

VCIA is located on the western edge of Vice City, accessible via the Dolphin Expressway. Port Gellhorn Regional is on the northern outskirts of Port Gellhorn, near the industrial district. Both airports also feature private hangar rentals for players who own aircraft โ€” these are not fast travel points but allow you to spawn and store personal planes.

Pro tip: The airport parking garages at both airports are excellent locations for spawning rare vehicles. The long-term parking structures have a unique vehicle spawn table that includes higher-end cars than typical street parking.

Return to Safehouse (Phone Option)

The most convenient fast travel system in GTA VI is the โ€œReturn to Safehouseโ€ option on your in-game phone. Opening the phoneโ€™s Travel app and selecting any owned safehouse instantly loads you into that property, free of charge. This works from anywhere on the map, including during missions (unless scripted otherwise), in wilderness areas, and even while swimming.

The strategic value of safehouse placement for fast travel cannot be overstated. Owning properties in Vice City, Port Gellhorn, the Vice Keys, and the rural interior essentially gives you four free teleport points covering the entire map. For optimal coverage, the recommended safehouse fast travel network includes at least one property in each major region. See our safehouse locations guide for property recommendations by region.

Strategic Fast Travel Route Planning

Combining different fast travel systems creates efficient routing across Leonida. Here are the optimal routes for common traversal needs:

Vice City to Port Gellhorn: Metro Green Line (cheapest, $3) or Commercial Flight (fastest, but requires going to the airport). Taxi ($85-$120) offers the best balance of convenience and speed.

Mainland to Vice Keys: Ferry from Vice City Marina to any Keys port ($25). Taxis do not cross water. The Overseas Highway drive takes approximately 12 real minutes without traffic.

Vice City Barrier Islands to Downtown: Metro Blue Line through the underwater tunnel ($3). Taxis are also an option ($20-$35) but get stuck in bridge traffic during peak in-game hours.

Rural Interior to Vice City: Return to Safehouse is the best option if you own a city property. Otherwise, call a taxi (available in all towns, though wait times are longer in rural areas) or take the Coach Network bus from the nearest town depot.

Cross-Map (Keys to Port Gellhorn): No single fast travel method covers this entire route. The optimal combination: ferry from the Keys to Vice City Marina, then Metro Green Line or Taxi from Downtown to Port Gellhorn. Alternatively, if you own safehouses at both ends, use Return to Safehouse twice in succession.

Fast Travel & Wanted Levels

An important gameplay consideration: fast travel cannot be used while you have an active wanted level. The taxi company will not dispatch to a wanted criminal, buses and metros will not stop for you, and airport security goes into lockdown. The Return to Safehouse option is also disabled during wanted states above two stars.

To use fast travel while wanted, you must first lose your wanted level. The standard strategies apply: find a hiding spot and wait out the search radius, use a Pay โ€˜nโ€™ Spray (now called Vice Custom Auto), or switch vehicles. The time it takes to lose a wanted level and access fast travel is often still faster than manually driving across the map while pursued.

However, if your wanted level is low (1-2 stars) and you are in a taxi, riding in real time (not skipping) can help you evade by blending into traffic. This only works if the police have not specifically identified your taxi โ€” if they have, the driver will panic and stop.

Unlocking & Discovering Fast Travel Points

Fast travel points are revealed on your map as you discover the corresponding regions. Taxi destinations are available for any map marker you have revealed. Coach, Metro, Ferry, and Airport points appear once you physically visit the station or terminal for the first time.

The Metro system is partially locked behind story progression. The Green Line connecting Downtown to Port Gellhorn is closed for โ€œtrack maintenanceโ€ until Chapter 3. The Port Gellhorn Regional Airport does not appear as a fast travel destination until you have visited Port Gellhorn through story progression. The Vice Keys Ferry is available from the start, but you must visit at least one Keys port before the full ferry network appears on your map.

For players who prioritize fast travel access, the recommended discovery route after the introductory missions is: visit a Metro station (unlocks the Downtown Loop), visit the Vice City Marina Ferry Terminal (unlocks Keys access), take the Ferry to Islamorada Key (reveals the Keys stations), and visit Port Gellhorn through story progression (unlocks the northern transit network). Within the first 3-4 hours of gameplay, you can have all major fast travel points revealed.

Fast travel in GTA VI is deeper than in any previous Rockstar title, offering genuine strategic choices between cost, speed, and coverage. Learning to combine taxi services, the Metro, ferry routes, and safehouse teleportation transforms how you experience Leonida โ€” turning the massive map from a daunting commute into a network of efficiently connected destinations. Keep this guide handy as you plan your travel routes, and enjoy the scenery when you choose to ride rather than skip.
